What is a TRATTORIA?

Trattoria - One of the most popular eating institutions in Italy. A trattoria is usually family-run, and the food and service are usually more casual than in a ristorante but also warmer and more personal.

With the emphasis being on a steady clientele rather than on haute cuisine. The food is modest but plentiful (mostly following regional and local recipes). Clients become regulars at trattorie because their tastes and preferences become known, and they become part of the family.
